Unique Local and Cultural Experience.

La Cabaña Fishing Lodge is perfectly situated at the center of  the best Trout and Salmon fisheries in Northern Patagonia. Our bread-and-butter fishery is Lago Yelcho and Rio Futaleufu.  Located just a 5-minute walk from the Lodge these, two World Class locations often provide us with our most memorable experiences.

Chilean local Cuisine

Yelcho Fly Fishing.jpg

Our guests will be treated to an incredible menu featuring several mainstays of Chilean cuisine which feature incredible South Pacific seafood, authentic Patagonian asado (lamb), beef and pasta. Many of the ingredients are grown on-site. The meal will be paired with great wines from Chile and Argentina which are consistently rated among the finest in the world. Locally brewed craft beer is also available. Your chef Elisa started this lodge with excellent home cooked food as the core of the guest’s lodge experience. During your stay at La Cabaña Fishing Lodge, we will incorporate an asado (barbecue) into one of the last evenings to allow the guests to experience more of the Patagonian culture. Here you will have a chance to meet some of the locals and experience Patagonia in a more traditional sense. La Cabaña Fishing Lodge will provide a local cultural culinary experience unique to Patagonia.

Northern Patagonia is without question one of the premier fly fishing destinations in the world.  The Futaleufú watershed stands out among the many amazing rivers and lakes that Chilean Patagonia and Argentina have to offer.  La Cabaña Fishing lodge is perfectly located within .5 miles of the boca (mouth) of the Rio Futaleufú where it empties into Lago Yelcho.  This puts us mere minutes away from two of the best fishing locations Patagonia has to offer. During your stay at La Cabaña, you will have the chance to catch trophy Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Brook Trout, and the native La Perca Trucha (very similar to a smallmouth bass) Other anadromous Salmonidae are present at times.

Program Schedule

With the variety of different bodies of water at our disposal we stay flexible with our program. We decide where we are going to fish for the day based on the client’s desires and expectations for the week. Occasionally weather plays a role in our selection of fishing locations.

A typical day of fishing at La Cabaña might look something like this:  Breakfast 8am, fishing one of the many venues, shore lunch, fishing again until near dark followed by dinner 830pm.

  • Familiarization Day: Pickup from airport in Chaiten, settle into lodge, if schedule permits a half day fishing at Lago Yelcho.

  • Day 1: Lago Yelcho. We will spend the day fishing the reeds and structure near the lodge and where Rio Futaleufu empties into the lake. Dry fly, droppers and/or streamers

  • Day 2: Rio Futaleufu, Depending upon the time of year and current conditions we will fish the lower 15 kilometers below the rapids or the upper end above the rapids near the Border with Argentina Dry Fly, Streamer, Dry dropper

  • Day 3: Rio Yelcho/Rio Palena, depending upon the time of year and the desires of the client we will choose between one these two rivers for our third day. Dry Fly, streamer, dry dropper

  • Day 4: Flex Day, Many times on our flex day we explore one or more of the smaller lesser-known streams or Lagunas the area has to offer.

  • Day 5:  Lake Day, we will hunt for the biggest fish in the area. These are typically found near the inlet and outlets of streams and rivers in the Lake. (Lago Yelcho, Lago Rosselot, Lago Espolon)

  • Day 6: Last day of fishing, typically by this point the client has a strong understanding of the region and we will leave the final decision up to the client and guide.

  • Day 7:  After breakfast we will Proceed to the Airport in Chaiten

Testimonios

“La Cabana Fishing Lodge is beautifully situated, with views of the Andes and Lago Yelcho. The fishing is world class.  The fishing is really fun, too, as you sidle up to the lakeshore and toss your fly as close to the juncos (reeds) as you dare.  The takes are electric.  We caught rainbows, browns and even the occasional brookie.  Benjamin is a gracious, kind and accommodating host.  The lodge specializes in locally sourced food, part of their efforts to introduce guests to the region’s many charms.  I strongly recommend La Cabana Fishing Lodge, and I can’t wait to go back!”

"I had nice time staying in La Cabaña Fishing Lodge with Elisa and Benjamin and i did enjoy my time fishing with Tyler.
If someone wants a comfortable way to see and fish the remote Patagonia, La Cabaña is an excellent choice.

I hope i can visit again".
